I've bought the two Nymphs : Night and Day, and I absolutely LOVE them. But I'm so disappointed that they use Valdani threads. I can't afford the materials that NC is now using! Whhay can't she use DMC variegated? Anyone know a conversion chart from Valdani to DMV? TYIA, Ana

Gridding with a sewing machine?

Hi Everyone,

I've found that gridding really helps me with the Mira and L&L designs, but like everyone says, it takes a long time, especially when you're anxious to get started. Has anyone tried basting with a sewing machine on the longest stitch setting? I'm thinking that when it's time to remove it, it may be easy to pull the under thread out and then the top thread.

Has anyone tried this?

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good site to order Nordic Gold metallics, or if there's a good regular Krenik braid conversion for them?
I've had Christmas Flourishes kitted forever, except for the Nordic Gold. I can't find anyplace to order it that
a. won't charge $10 or more just for shipping
b. won't let me order just 1-2 cards

How to deal with off-grain fabric

I have received one of my FOTM pieces that appears to be off grain. Two sides are off when I fold it in 1/2 lengthwise and when I even it up like you do with quilt fabrics you can see it's almost 1" out. How can I use this?

Apologies if there's already a posting on this - I can't find it if there is.

I think I'm right in saying that you are allowed to make a copy of a chart (that you own yourself) to use, instead of using the original? So long as you do not pass it on to anyone else.

Are the Mirabilia charts treated with some kind of anti-copying ink that reacts to the light used in photocopying, thus rendering them useless? I seem to recall some manufacturer doing this, although...

Hi everyone, is there a knack to use kreinik metailic threads? I dont seem to be able to get them to look neat. Im currently working on Nora's Halloween Fairy & the pattern asks for 2 strands which Im using, but compared to dmc threads they are very uneven & messy ....I really dont like them... I happened across it online the other day and fell head-over-heals in love with the table clamp/q-snap holder combo (I always stitch at my desk). I absolutely MUST save up for it. The only problem I can see is where do I get it from? I do have another question again. It says in the chart to backstitch the wings and branches of leaves with 1 strand of 869. But since it's stitched originally on 32 count and I am doing her on 14 count aida, should I backstitch with 2 strands instead? thanks in advance guys!

I have read somewhere in this forum that it's easier to work with Petite treasure braids than kreinik. I am working on a few designs that call for #4 braids. I am wondering if i can replace these with Petite treasure braids. The designs calls for 1 strand of #4 kreinik. Do i use one strand of PB as well? Does PB only have one size? I'd like to hear what you guys think and your experiences. Thanks.

I'm currently stitching Fairy Moon and this's the 1st pattern I stitch with beads. Therefore, I would appreciate if anyone can tell me when should I attach the beads. Should I attach the beads after cross stitched the whole pattern? I'm thinking of attaching the beads to the small patch which I allready cross stitched, does it work?

I have been trying to research the answer to this question and have been unsuccessful...

I have noticed some people on the board stitch the skin colors over 1 while the rest of the body is over 2. I am going to start Petal Fairy and would like to know how do you go about doing something like that... Would you have to look at the pattern and tell yourself that I'm going to do 2 "over 1" stitches PER every stitch i see in the chart? I hope that makes sense...

Stitching on Linen vs Other Evenweaves

I'm not sure if it's just me or not, but I have the worst time stitching on linen. I have three grips:
1. I can't get it to lay straight on my q-snap. It's always warped to one direction or another no matter how many times I try.
2. I can't pull my stitches as tights as I like without pulling and warping the linen.
3. Because I can't pull my stitches tight, they're all puffy and uneven.
